چکیده

background : helicobacter pylori is a major human gastric for various gastro duodenal diseases.a number of putative virulence factors such as dupa, homb, tnpa have been described. to date, none were found to be significantly associated with specific h. pylori-related diseases (e.g. gastric cancer and duodenal ulcer). methods : the primary aim of this study was to test the h. pylori hrga genotype isolated from 253 iranian symptomatic patients to investigate possible association with clinical outcomes. the positive culture results were confirmed by glmm (genetic control for h. pylori) pcr assay. results : the results showed hrga gene was detected in 44/253 strains (17.3%). prevalence of the hrga gene was relatively high in strains isolated from duodenal ulcer patients (p=0.0063; odd ratio: 3.54; ci 95%: 1.42-8.77). conclusions : in contrast our findings showed that the prevalence of hrga in our control group (gastritis patients) was 22.7% (p>0.05). conclusively, hrga gene is a good candidate as a discriminatory biomarker for patients with duodenal ulcer

Helicobacter pylori and associated duodenal ulcer.

Twenty three children with coexistent duodenal ulcer and Helicobacter pylori infection were treated with either two weeks of amoxycillin (25 mg/kg/day) in addition to six weeks of cimetidine, or cimetidine alone. Endoscopy with antral and duodenal biopsies for urease test, microaerophilic culture, and histological studies were performed at entry, six weeks, 12 weeks, and at six months. Children...

Eradicating Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcer.

One hundred twenty-two patients were randomly assigned to three groups of treatment (A, B, and C), with (1) ranitidine (300 mg q.d. for 6 weeks), (2) ranitidine (300 mg q.d. for 6 weeks) with amoxicillin (500 mg t.i.d.) and metronidazole (500 mg b.i.d.) for the first 12 days, or (3) colloidal bismuth subcitrate (120 mg q.i.d. for 6 weeks) with amoxicillin and metronidazole (at same dosages as i...

The Helicobacter pylori duodenal ulcer promoting gene, dupA in China

BACKGROUND The prevalence of H. pylori is as high as 60-70% in Chinese population. Although duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer are both caused by H. pylori, they are at opposite ends of the spectrum and as such are considered mutually exclusive. Duodenal ulcer promoting (dupA) gene was reported to be associated with duodenal ulcer development. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalenc...

Conceivable mechanisms by which Helicobacter pylori provokes duodenal ulcer disease.

A conceivable concept for the development of duodenal ulcers in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infected subjects is presented in this chapter. The concept includes an explanation of the fact that only a minority of all H. pylori-infected subjects will develop a duodenal ulcer. Helicobacter pylori infection of the antrum induces a hypersecretion of gastric acid secretion, giving rise to gastric...

Determination of Helicobacter pylori virulence-associated genes in duodenal ulcer and gastric biopsies

Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori or Hp) has been strongly associated with the peptic ulcer diseases, chronic gastritis, ulcers, and gastric cancer. Genes associated with pathogenicity have been designated for H. pylori, and some of them appear to be related to more severe clinical consequences of the infection. The present study was conducted to determine cagA, vacA, cagE, iceA1, oipA...

homB status of Helicobacter pylori as a novel marker to distinguish gastric cancer from duodenal ulcer.

The hom family of Helicobacter pylori outer-membrane proteins, especially the homB gene, has been suggested as a novel virulence factor; however, the clinical association and function of this gene are still unclear. We evaluated the presence of the homA, homB, and cagA genes in 286 strains isolated from patients in the U.S. and Colombian populations (126 with gastritis, 96 with duodenal ulcer, ...
